Words on Mother Vessel - sculpture piece

Mother Vessel, carrying one’s children

Through life until they are

Old enough to leave.

If they leave too early, it rocks

The boat for everyone, and upsets the

Whole balance.

If they don’t leave when it’s time,

Then they overwhelm the boat

And again, upset the balance.

Carrying one’s children

Into and on through life

When they are young.

Showing them the beauties

And pitfalls in life, from the safety of the Mother Vessel.

They can have their little sorties

Out into the shallows,

With their mother near at hand,

But really, it’s better

That they don’t leave until they are ready.
